Ernst, Edwin Collection
Dr. Edwin Ernst, an only child born to St. Louis residents Charles and Catherine Ernst, was a notable Roentgenologist, a physician who specializes in radiological work. Dr. Ernst studied at Washington University in St. Louis and later at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania earning his advanced degrees. For two years he served as a resident physician at the St. Louis Mullanphy Hospital before leaving to pursue a private practice. When the United States formally entered the war in 1917, Ernst left St. Louis to become chief radiologist at Base Hospital 21. He was discharged honorably in 1919 with the citation of Major. His collection consist of x-ray images taken at Base Hospital 21 as well as drawings of radiological equipment and photographs.
