Description X-ray taken by Edwin C. Ernst of Base Hospital 21 in Rouen, France of a comminuted fracture of the left femur, showing drainage tubes. Base hospital 21 was formed from faculty and students from Washington University School of Medicine. Ernst designed his own portable x-ray equipment to help quickly diagnose injured soldiers.
