Description X-ray taken by Edwin C. Ernst of Base Hospital 21 in Rouen, France showing shrapnel metal fragments and a penetrating fracture of the frontal skull table. Base hospital 21 was formed from faculty and students from Washington University School of Medicine. Ernst designed his own portable x-ray equipment to help quickly diagnose injured soldiers.
