Nicholas Murray D.Phil., FRHistS, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Strategy & Policy at the US Naval War College, Newport, RI. He is the author of The Rocky Road to the Great War: the evolution of trench warfare to 1914 and he has published articles on fortification as well as on other topics related to military education and the development of warfare from the 19th Century on.
