Battery F. 128th F. A. Camp Doniphan Ft. Sill, Okla. March 9th 1918. Dear Mother, I believe I made a mistake in telling you that I was thinking of going away for I have not gone afterall and I have not recieved a letter for over a week. That is just the trouble with this detail - they get you all stired up and then nothing happens. We are still expecting to leave any time, but are not so excited about it as we were. We have had plenty of time to cool down.

[page 2] Equipment is arriving here continually. Today we were issued short top coats in place of our long overcoats and short cut rain coats in exchange for our slickers. Our regiment is firing now. The guns have been placed on a hill near camp & the fire directed against the big hills. They certainly make an awful racket. The range used is about 5500 yards. Those guns shoot up to 1100 yards. Quite some distance, eh? For the past two weeks the battery & regiment have

[page 3] been standing retreat in full pack & trench shoes. about a week ago we were issued rifles. The Radio Detail was not issued rifles at first but we have them now. I have become pretty good at "Right shoulder Arms "Left shoulder Arms " Port Arms " etc. & find it quite a bit of fun. We also have aiming exercises. It will target practice on the rifle range before long. I may really be gone by that time however. Well, I do not know of any other news right now. I am feeling OK often getting over that trip to Lawton. Your loving son Glen WRITE SOON.
