Owen "Glen" Tudor letter to his mother - April 22, 1918
Transcript
Somewhere in France. April 22, 1918. My Dear Mother, Well, at last we have paused in our travels to give me time to write a few lines. We have now traveled back from the coast and are in our permanent camp, we hope. The censorship rules are strict but I hope to be able to tell something of what I have seen of the country. The "Hatchets" I am enclosing cover the ocean trip pretty well. I got sea sick once but it was because I was working in the Hatchet office & we used to put on some big feeds which didn't go well with the rough sea which came up. That wasn't all that came up either, but I was all right in an hour & it taught me a lesson. I never was sick after that altho we had a much rougher

sea. Of course there was much excitement when we saw land. You have seen France & of course know about the kind of country we saw. After we had landed we went to a rest camp for a few days but there was nothing to be seen there & no [Y.M.C.A.] to speak of & we were glad to get away. After traveling a while on a French railway which you know the appearance of, we arrived here. We are in a comfortable camp and like it very well, there is much more to be seen here, I do not believe that I can ever write more than to tell you that I am well but will write often. I will see some very interesting things in a military way & of the country & will store them all up as much as I can & tell you all about it when I come back. You folks back home know more about the war now than I do, Goodbye your loving son Glen. [censor signature]
