Postmaster Notice! - ca. 1914-1918
Transcript
NOTICE! As Postmaster of this town, I am authorized to accept applicants for enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corps. I am prepared to furnish information to patriotic young Americans about this most interesting and useful branch of our military service. Applicants accepted at this office have their transportation furnished to St. Louis, [Missouri], by the Government; and from there on to the training stations. No money is needed as the Government pays the necessary expense from the start. If you are accepted at this office your return expenses after the war will be paid all the way home. If you go to St. Louis or elsewhere to apply, your return expense will be paid only to the point of application. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you ought to do today. [signature line] POSTMASTER.
Description
This World War I poster is part of a larger collection of propaganda material issued throughout Missouri during the war. These artfully crafted posters were distributed to help recruit men for the Navy and Marines, raise money for the war effort, and sustain public morale. This poster features four soldiers firing a fully automatic weapon and was used to notify men enlisting about the U.S. Marine Corps.
