Weschbillig, Germany March 26, 1919 Dear Folks: A letter from your of March 5 came yesterday. It was the letter that had the khaki handkerchief in it - and I thank you very much for it. I am running short of these handkerchiefs and need a couple. I today sent to Trier for a few more. A few days ago I sent home a bunch of cartoons in a box. These are the cartoons that have appeared in Stars and Stripes for the past year and all of the soldiers who have been over here think they are great. Perhaps they may not appeal to you, but they certainly depict Army life truly. The one about the troubles of a top sergeant is sure fine. A top sergeant is a first sergeant and that is what I am and have been for some time. We are still in a little old town, and will probably be in it or a similar one until we start back. Yesterday we heard that we were to go back thru Brest the way all the rest of the troupes have left - and not up thru Antwerp as we have heard. That

Description Charles Stevenson sent this letter to his grandparents about when he expect to leave Europe. Stevenson enlisted in Kansas City, Missouri and became attached to Company A, 314th Engineers at Camp Funston, Kansas. Stevenson was shipped overseas on June 12, 1918 where he remained for the duration of the war. He arrived back in the United States on May 26, 1919.
