Headquarters 342nd Field Artillery American Expeditionary Forces. 30th September, 1918. Memorandum: Upon the occupation of positions by units of this regiment, the following maps and sketches will habitually be prepared and submitted to Regimental Headquarters. The sequence of importance and order of preparation is given in order: 1. Possibilities of fire map. Seale 1 to 20000. (a) This map will show possibilities of fire in sector in mills to right and left of reference point. (b) Minimum ranges. (c) Maximum ranges with BG5 Powder and BBP powder using F.A. shell (d) Dead space. (e) The above map will be submitted by each battery. 2. Lists of coordinates of (a) Guns. (b) Posts of Command. (c) Telephone Centrals, (d) echelons of each battery. Posts of Command. Observation Posts. Radio and Telephone station and First Aid Station of each battalion. 3. Visibility map from all observations posts on a scale of 1 to 20000. Invisible portions will be shown in red. (b) The above map will be submitted by each unit maintaining an observation post. 4. Position Sketch: (a) This map will consist of two parts: (1) Map on a scale of 1 to 20000 showing routes of approach to and location of positions. (2) Sub-sketch on a scale of 1 to 10000 showing the location of guns, observation posts, post of command, telephone, radio and first aid stations. (b) This map will be submitted by each battalion. 5.
