10/25/[1922] Miss Stella M. Drumm, Missouri Historical Society, City. Dear Miss Drumm: In regard to your inquiry with regard to John B. Clayton, I beg to state that he was born at Sappington, [Missouri] on May 8th, 1891 and has lived there up until his marriage several years ago. He was one of the first officers to go over even before we sent an army over. He had no previous military experience, having graduated from Washington University in about 1912 or 1913. He is living in St. Louis and you might be able to get any additional information that you may desire. Yours very truly, SL Morton SLM/S
