Subject: Claim made by Mme Megut, Ferrieres, France. 1. This office, by direction of the Secretary of War, is making an investigation of a claim made by Mme Marie Megut, Ferrieres, France, in the sum of 492 francs, for alleged damages done by American troops while stationed there at the beginning of September, 1918; she states that a Major, whose name she does not recall, promised to see she was recompensed. 2. Request is made that if you have any knowledge of this claim, and its merits, to advise this office (Attention Major Joseph L. Hanley). By authority of the Inspector General: Joseph L. Description Letter from the Inspector General of the Army, Joseph L. Hanley, to Major Joseph J. Koch concerning a claim from a French lady that a Major promised her money to repair damages to her property. This collection was compiled by Major Joseph Koch, a St. Louis, Missouri resident who served during the Punitive Expedition into Mexico with the First Missouri Infantry. During World War I, Major Koch was severely wounded in his left leg during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive while serving with the 35th Division, 137th Infantry.
