Fully appreciative of the effort made and the time invested in bringing this Company up to its present state of efficiency, in order to show our love and appreciation to our retiring Company Commander, we hereby request that he accept the following named articles as a token of our appreciation and respect: 1 French Army Saddle 1 Saddle Cloth 1 Saddle Trunk 1 Pair Riding Boots (made to order) 1 Bridle 1 Set Silver Spurs From. { William H. Description Letter from some of the enlisted men of Company M, 1st Missouri Infantry Regiment to Major Joseph J. Koch thanking him for training the Company to a state of efficiency and asking that he accept several gifts. This collection was compiled by Major Joseph Koch, a St. Louis, Missouri resident who served during the Punitive Expedition into Mexico with the First Missouri Infantry. During World War I, Major Koch was severely wounded in his left leg during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive while serving with the 35th Division, 137th Infantry.
