Cut lines:- The base of supplies for the Kansas City regiment is in a small village at the foot of the mountains occupied by our troops. They are sent up by cable, & then taken forward on limbers and pack mules. The large sacks in the foreground contain nothing but bread, while the boxes are filled with canned goods. Description | Otto Higgins did not serve in the United States military, but was assigned as a war correspondent for the Kansas City Star soon after the United States entered the world conflict and was with the American forces in all the major engagements in which they participated. He wrote and photographed soldiers from the Mid-West, especially Missouri and Kansas. Higgin's began his service with the old Third Regiment, and was with regiments at Camp Nichols, Fort Riley, Camp Funston, Camp Doniphan, Fort Leavenworth, Fort Sheridan, and finally in France. This is a photograph of the commanding officer of a supply company. He stands in front of supplies for Kansas City, Missouri soldiers fighting in the mountains. The supplies are located at a base located at the foot of the mountain and are sent up the mountain by pack mules. |
