| Description | Otto P. Higgins did not serve in the United States military, but he spent the entire span of the war in training camps and overseas with the army as a staff correspondent for the Kansas City Star. He wrote about soldiers from the Mid-West, especially Missouri and Kansas. Higgin's began his service with the old Third Regiment, and was with regiments at Camp Nichols, Fort Riley, Camp Funston, Camp Doniphan, Fort Leavenworth, Fort Sheridan, and finally in France. In this story, Otto P. Higgins of the Kansas City Star wrote about his and other soldier's impressions of France and explained why they had these impressions. The soldiers were not impressed with their living situations at French Camps. They also only witnessed the war torn countryside, making the assumption that all of France was horrible. Higgins also noticed that the French bargain for everything. Higgins complimented the American soldier who were willing to pay the asked price for French goods. |
