Lieut. J.F. Hardesty You will be on duty with one motor ambulance at PROVEN STATION during entrainment of 51st (M) Div. from 14.20 hours 28th incl. until 13.20 hours 30th inst or until such time as entrainment finishes. You will carry 1 Medical Companion and 1 Water Bottle keep a nominal roll of patients seen their disposal. On arrival at PROVEN STATION you will report to R.T.O. On conclusion of entrainment you will proceed with the Ambce. Car via POPERINGHE, STEENVOORDE, HAZEBROUCK, LILLERS, ST POL, ARRAS, and AYETTE to GOMIECOURT Area where you will rejoin the Unit. Description John Franklin Hardesty entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps and volunteered to serve as a surgeon with the British Army during WWI. In this letter, W.E. Fossi, Lt. Col, Commander 1/3 Highland Field Ambulance, informed Hardesty that he would be on duty with an ambulance at Proven Station.
