Base Hospital Number 26, A.P.O. #785 16 [December] [1918]. Special Orders Number 453. Par. 5. Under authority granter in Sec. II, G. O. No 37,Hqs., SOS, c.s., Captain John F. Hardesty is hereby discharged from this hospital as of class A, and in compliance with telegram 1064, Chief Surgeon’s Office, Tours, [December] 10, 1918, U. S. Liaison Officer, that city. The travel directed is necessary in the military service. By order of Lieut-Colonel Law [signature] W. P. Shepard, 1st Lieut. San. Corps, Adjutant. Capt. Hardesty [12 stamps on document]

Description John Franklin Hardesty entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps and volunteered to serve as a surgeon with the British Army during WWI. In March of 1918, he was captured by Germans in Amiens, France. Hardesty was imprisoned at Ratstatt and Villingen Prisoner of War Camps for eight months. Hardesty received these Special orders, signed by W.P. Shepard, while recovering at Base Hospital Number 26. The orders stated that Hardesty was to be discharged from the hospital and proceed to London, England.
