EXPEDITIONARY FORCES Base Hospital Number 26 A.P.O. 785, 6, [December] [1918], SPECIAL ORDERS NO. 443. EXTRACT Par. 13 Capt. J. F. Hardesty, M.C., a patient in this hospital, still unfit for duty, will proceed to tours and Paris, for the purpose of securing personal equipment, returning to this station within seven days of date of departure. Upon arrival in Paris he will report to the A.P.M. Copies to: Sgt. Maj. Registrar Capt Hardesty By order of Lt. Col. Law, [signature] W. P. Shepard 1st.Lieut. San. Corps, Adjutant. Description John Franklin Hardesty entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps and volunteered to serve as a surgeon with the British Army during WWI. In March of 1918, he was captured by Germans in Amiens, France. Hardesty was imprisoned at Ratstatt and Villingen Prisoner of War Camps for eight months. Hardesty received these Special orders, signed by W.P. Shepard, while recovering from his term of inprisonment at Base Hospital Number 26. The orders stated that he was not fit for duty.
