HEADQUARTERS Base Section No. 3, S.O.S., American E.F. London, England Special Orders No. 3 [January] 3, 1919. Extract. 21. Captains J. F. Hardesty and C.W. Maxson, M.C. , recently repatriated from Germany, are hereby relieved from further duty in the American E.F., and will proceed on or about this date from London to Liverpool, reporting upon arrival to the American Embarkation Medical Officer for transport duty. Upon arrival in the United States, these officers will report to the commanding General, Port of Debarkation, for further orders. The travel directed is necessary in the military service. Description John Franklin Hardesty entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps and volunteered to serve as a surgeon with the British Army during WWI. In March of 1918, he was captured by Germans in Amiens, France. Hardesty was imprisoned at Ratstatt and Villingen Prisoner of War Camps for eight months. These special orders, signed by J.B. Mitchell, stated that Hardesty was relieved from further duty in the American Expeditionary Forces.
