F.P.J. In future correspondence on this subject, refer to 201 (Hardesty, J.F.) Off. OJ.MW-359 WAR DEPARTMENT, THE ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE, WASHINGTON. May 4, 1918. Hon. Champ Clark, Speaker, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C. My dear Mr. Speaker: Replying to your letter of April 26th, 1918, with reference to Captain J. F. Hardesty, Medical Reserve Corps, who was officially reported as missing in action March 23rd, I beg leave to advise you that nothing further has been reported in this officer's case. In view of the time that has elapsed since this report was received, it would seem reasonable to presume that Captain Hardesty was either killed in action or was taken prisoner. Should the latterproive later to be the fact, report to that effect will, in due course of time, be received by this office through the Red Cross. Should such report be received, Captain Hardesty's relatives will be promptly notified. Very truly yours, H.P. McCain The Adjutant General. May 13. Dear folks: I suppose you were officially notified that Uncle John was taken prisoner as yesterday's papers gave it in the casualty lists. Mary Lee
