Saint Louis University School of Medicine 1402 SOUTH GRAND AVENUE ST. LOUIS, [Missouri]. April 23, 1928 Dr. John F. Hardesty Missouri Theatre Building, Saint Louis, Missouri. Dear Doctor Hardesty:-- The enclosed carbons of letters will interest you. Father Kenny happened to give them to me recently after he had sorted out some old papers in his files and naturally I thought you might well have them. Description John Franklin Hardesty entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps and volunteered to serve as a surgeon with the British Army during WWI. In March of 1918, he was captured by Germans in Amiens, France. Hardesty was imprisoned at Ratstatt and Villingen Prisoner of War Camps for eight months. In this letter, Alphonse M. Schwitalla of St. Louis University School of Medicine provided Hardesty with carbon copies of the letters that were written to the Vatican on his behalf in 1918 .
