Pitching Tents on the Champagne Line - July 18, 1918

I7I2-J8 WITH THE RAINBOW DIVISION IN FRANCE IN AN OPEN FIELD UNDER CAMOUFLAGE the 150th Field Artillery of the American 42nd ("Rainbow") Division pitch their tents on the Champagne line. This was the third sector to which the Rainbow men were sent, and here they did their valiant part in checking the German attempt to break the line in July. The field above was under heavy fire. (Near Suippes, July 18, 1918)

This Photograph of 150th Field Artillery, 42nd Division, pitching tents on the Champagne line is one of several Signal Corps photographs in a collection compiled by Ruby Garrett. Garrett, a Kanas City lawyer, served as Chief Signal Officer of the 117th Field Signal Battalion, 42nd Division, during World War I.
