1230-V8 WITH THE RAINBOW DIVISION IN FRANCE BRIGADIER GENERAL MICHAEL J. LENIHAN commanded the 83rd infantry brigade of the American 42nd ("Rainbow") Division throughout the spring and summer of the eventful year of 1918. He then was transferred to the 77th Division. The snapshot above shows him in front of a headquarters in the Ardennes recently vacated by a German commander.

This photograph of Brigadier General Michael J. Lenihan, commander of the 83rd infantry brigade, 42nd Division, posing in front of a vacated German headquarters in Ardennes, is one of several Signal Corps photographs in a collection compiled by Ruby Garrett. Garrett, a Kanas City lawyer, served as Chief Signal Officer of the 117th Field Signal Battalion, 42nd Division, during World War I.
