Photograph of the cemetery in France where Dyer Bird, the first man of the 42nd Division killed in action, was buried along with 11 other American soldiers. Bird's was later re-interred at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial. This photographs is part of a collection compiled by Ruby Garrett, a Kansas City, Missouri lawyer who served as Chief Signal Officer in the 42nd Division during World War I and likely took this photograph while serving in France.
