705-J8 WITH THE RAINBOW DIVISION IN FRANCE HEADQUARTERS OF THE RAINBOW DIVISION in France, in the spring and early summer of 1918 was in the battered old town of Baccarat. The snapshot above was taken June 17, 1918, at Deneuvre. Members of the 165th Infantry, 42nd Division have made the acquaintance of an old peasant woman who gives them details of the ante-bellum days of Baccarat.

In this photograph, soldiers from the 165th Infantry, 42nd Division overlook Baccarat, France with a French peasant woman. This photograph is one of several Signal Corps photographs in a collection compiled by Ruby Garrett. Garrett, a Kanas City lawyer, served as Chief Signal Officer of the 117th Field Signal Battalion, 42nd Division, during World War I.
