[Headquarters, Camp Zachary Taylor, Louisville, Kentucky letterhead] July 25, 1919. From: The Camp Surgeon. To: Levi H. Fuson, Captain, Medical Corps, U.S.A. Newton [Illinois] Subject: Commendation. 1. Upon your discharge from the service, The Surgeon General has directed me to express to you his personal appreciation and that of the Medical Department for your patriotic devotion to duty and the self-sacrificing spirit that you have manifested in giving your valuable assistance to the Medical Department and to the Army when it was so badly needed and to express the hope that you will continue your connection with the Medical Department by joining the Medical Reserve Corps. Description Col. Pyles wrote this memorandum to Dr. Levi H. Fuson thanking him on behalf of the Surgeon General for his service. Captain Fuson was in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He served with Base Hospitals 21 and 210 in France. Base hospital 21, which was founded and staffed by Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, was one of six that was selected for mobilization by the U.S. Government to support the British troops.
