[page 1] [October] 1 1917 Dear Parents, Brothers & Sisters. Why dont some of you wright I have wrighten two letters & five cards & havent got an answer to one yet. Things are in order now every thing is beginning to get in shape, we were very fortunate when we got here our tents were up mess hall built & other thing still there was & is yet an awful lot of work to be done. We lost 2 of our junur Leutenants today, sorry to see them go, they were transferred to D. Battery some Regiment.

[page 2] Weather has been fine, but today was pretty windy & tonight looks like it may rain hope it dont - C. is going to get 150 head of horses tomorrow that will make 185 which is not enough for a battery. Had Beacon fried spuds butter coffie & bred for breakfast. Beans mash spuds & prunes for dinner. Corn beef hash & pudding for supper let you come back for 2nd & belive me I come it tastes good, am getting fat on it am getting a bay window. Drilled 6 ours this day, harness & gun drill before dinner & dough-boy drill this afternoon expect to get dow to regular drill when all horses get here dont like to see it come. Pay didnt get here yet. Let us go to town now, but havent had time yet.

[page 3] Pop I jimed my razer trying to strop it, will get barber to hone it soon as he gets time, he has to drill & gont have time shave many mugs. It is impossible to keep clean here the dust is a foot deep & the wind blows day & night, still you get the devil if you aint all dolled up. Have a fine shower bath but water is cold. Two more batterys of 1st Missouri got in to day. Are expecting men from draft to fill up our ranks some time this week that will make work easer on us. Had a big scrap in D battery other day
