Idaho National Bank Boise, Idaho June 19, 1917 General E. A. Crowder Provost Marshal General U.S. Army Washington, D.C. My dear General: For the reason that the information may be of benefit to you in any future legislation contemplated for your Department I have concluded to submit some information I recently received. As the official head of one of the most important Departments of the Army it will no doubt be of benefit for you to know, as far as possible, just how you are regarded by members of Congress and especially by those who are members of the Military Committee in either House. Hence this communication. I was privileged to read a letter from Senator James H. Brady of this state the other day in which he incidentally expressed the view, and I quote his exact words, that

Description This letter to Enoch H. Crowder praised him for his work on the passage of the Selective Service Act. This document is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General. Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I.
