Mr. Champ Clark, I wish to answer your question 1. I know we have gone through six (6) war - Every one of them national. The present war, unlike them is international In our national wars we fought for our individual rights & liberties as a nation; in this war, we have undertaken to fight also for other nations. 2nd That much I know; but I do not know the criterion by which this war is to be determined, or ended, 3rd As to the Teddy expedition, in my opinion, it would be a national crime. Description In this April 1917, letter to Champ Clark, an unknown author discussed the difference between World War I and past wars. Champ Clark, a long-time resident of Bowling Green, Missouri, was a politician in the Democratic Party. He served as a representative of Missouri from 1893 to 1895 and from 1897 to 1921. From 1911 to 1919 he served as the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Clark opposed President Woodrow Wilson's decision to bring the United States into World War I.
