Washington, D.C. April 28th 1917. Hon. Champ Clark, Speaker, House of Representatives. Dear Mr. Speaker:-- You are all right. You are too big and true to be carried away from a course that reason and common sense would seem to dictate at this time. We need more men like you. I believe in “America First”. and to my mind you are ably supporting that principle. Yours Sincerely Thomas S. Kennedy

Description In this April 28, 1917, letter to Champ Clark, Thomas S. Kennedy voiced his support for Clark's anti-conscription stance. Clark, a long-time resident of Bowling Green, Missouri, was a politician in the Democratic Party. He served as a representative of Missouri from 1893 to 1895 and from 1897 to 1921. From 1911 to 1919 he served as the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
