L. J. Hall letter to Bennett Champ Clark - October 17, 1917

Transcript

Columbia, Missouri, [October] 17, 1917 Lieut. Col. Bennett Clark, [Fort Sill, Oklahoma] Dear Friend Bennett: After congratulating you and wishing you well, I am writing to ask your advice in regard to getting a ten-day furlough for Private Leon C. Hall, Co. F. 139th Inf., for ten days, beginning [November] 20th, or there-abouts. Can it be done? How? I shall appreciate it greatly if you will give me information. I have not seen the boy for more than six months, and will have to go back to Washington about [November] 30. His sisters of course, are anxious to see him. Have just received a letter from Gene saying that as it is hardly probable that he will be called next, he would like to go to an officers training camp, and that he has heard that several camps will be opened about [January] 1st. To whom should he make application? Gene, you know, would make a good officer. He is well educated --- well trained physically --- has had business experience, and is a pretty level-headed fellow, I think. We are all proud of your success, and are expecting you to climb right on up. With very best wishes, I am, Yours truly, L.J. Hall 1601 E. Broadway, Columbia, [Missouri]
