Dear Dad: I just happened to think that when I came through St. Louis [Missouri], Judge Nortori [ms illegible: 1 wd] me to see if you couldn’t get him employment as special counsel with the special committee to investigate the race riot in [East] St. Louis [Illinois] or else as special counsel in one of the investigation the Department of Justice is pulling off. into West Point the boy lives at Hannibal [Missouri] and I wish you would see Romjue, Stone & Reed and see if any of them have an appointment as I am anxious to favor Donnelly. Champ Clark, a long-time resident of Bowling Green, Missouri, was a politician in the Democratic Party. He served as a representative of Missouri from 1893 to 1895 and from 1897 to 1921. From 1911 to 1919 he served as the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Bennett Clark served as a colonel in the Army during World War I, and in 1932 was elected as a State Senator. |
