[YMCA letterhead] Le Mans France June 2 1919 Dear Friend Received your letter yesterday and was very glad to hear from you, and to hear that you are feeling fine I have been feeling fine myself all the time except when I get disgusted with this country but then I suppose some day we will get out of here and start for home It has not been so bad here lately as we have been having fine weather It has been nice and warm with very little rain But it sure is dusty. The soil here is about all sand and when the wind gets to blowing and the troops marching in and out it sure does blind a person. Gen Pershing [General John J. Pershing] is here again today reviewing and inspecting the camp and I hope the

I was down town to see some boxing matches a week ago [Sunday], and one of the boys that belongs to the same company I do was knocked out I heard the next morning that he died a few hours after They sure have some fights here between the frogs and the yanks.
