F Office Sunday Navy Dept. [stamp] B.S.D.E.CO. GEN.MGR. MAY 7 1919 to Note Ans. Noted May 6, 1919. SUBJECT: Submarines L-5 to L-8 - Main Engines - Repair Parts Purchased from De LaVergne Co. Bureau of Steam Engineering, Navy Department, Washington, D.C. ATTENTION---ADMIRAL R.S. GRIFFIN, Engineer in Chief My dear Sir: - We have learned from absolutely reliable sources that the De LaVergne Company, of New York, is making repair parts for the Navy, for our engines 6-M-100, which were installed in the "L" Boats. To enable the De LaVergne Company to furnish these parts it has necessarily been provided with copies of our detailed drawings. This action is distinctly contrary to the understandings between the Navy Department and ourselves, to the effect that detailed drawings furnished by us would be held as strictly confidential matter. We take the liberty of bringing this matter to your attention as we feel that the drawings were supp0lied to the De LaVergne Company without the authorization. Yours very truly, BUSCH-SULZER BROS.-DIESEL ENGINE CO. Max Rotter V.P. in Chg. of Engineering MB/JB
