Transcript

Dr. William Porter WHILE-A-WAY LODGE OCEAN SPRINGS, [Mississippi]. May 21st 1916 Mr. W.C. Breckenridge. St. Louis Dear Friend. I am sure I owe you a letter. Pardon procrastination. I really have been very busy. So many "next things". I think in your last - you discussed the war. You will be glad to know that the war is over. I met a "big" yon German man - who knowing that I was trying to do some thing for "our side" came to see me. We spent the afternoon in fixing things up. They are - or were - fixed but whether they will stay fixed or not - is another question. My guess is another year. What do you say. A big naval battle might shorten or lengthen the mire - but England must be wise with Ireland. Little news down here. Every thing growing and we are happy and well. Mocking-birds nesting in the honeysuckle at our front door. Quail running through our front yard. Oranges full of young fruit Figs almost ripe. Come down and see us. I mean it and will give you a good [ms illegible: 1 wd]. Write me when you can. If you hear any thing new of that disgraceful [ms illegible: 1 wd] if the State [ms illegible: 1 wd] for Tuberculosis - let me know. It was my pet. - Mrs Porter joins in best wishes Your friend [William] Porter.
