Transcript

Dr. William Porter WHILE-A-WAY LODGE OCEAN SPRINGS, [Mississippi]. [December] 18 1918: Mr W.C. Breckenridge St. Louis. Dear Friend. You are right. The ring of steel and not steel at that in being drawn around the crazy Emperor. He tried to emulate Napoleon. He will soon be in the last act. Once England may designate his habitat as you say he has brought the Slav question home. Yet the “royal” family has lost none. Oh no. “I rule by Divine selection” - What of the rest? - The pills are yours. When [ms illegible: 1 wd] - let me know. "Do tell" about Patience Worth. I confess I cannot see the way out - for it is risky to try to work off a joke on the public. I fear for the expose or the explanation. Tell me what you think of it all. Is it all up to Yost? Are the Hutchers not in it? - We have nice weather. Grape fruit and oranges are yellow as my [ms illegible: 1 wd] trees. Violets and roses blooming - Have planter 116 fine roses and about 40 fence (climbing) roses - You will see it some day - please. Wife joins in best Xmas wishes. The girls have gone to Kansas. Bess will be married soon. Only Wife, Andrew and I. Few but well and happy. Your friend [William] Porter
