Headquarters, 164th F.A. Brigade AMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES 28th October, 1918. Map Chambley 5-6 a/20,000. OPERATIONS ORDER: NUMBER 19. 1. Upon call for “Barrage Puvenelle” by the Commanding General, Divisional Artillery in the sector on the right, the following fire will be delivered. (a) One battery of the 340th Field Artillery will deliver fire on the roads and crossroads in the vicinity of B4057; one battery of the 340th Field Artillery will delivery fire on the salient in roads and tracks at B-4659; one battery of the 340th Field Artillery will deliver fire on the salient in the roads and tracks near Mon Plaisir Farm, and one battalion of the 340th Field Artillery will deliver a combing fire on the area in the valley of the Rupt de Mad, north of Rembercourt; All shown on appended tracing. (b) One battery of the 342nd Field Artillery will deliver a concentrating fire on Buret Farm. (c) The rate of fire for 75’s will be 6 rounds per piece per minute for 5 minutes and two rounds per piece per minute for 10 minutes. The rate of fire for the 155’s will be 2 rounds per piece per minute for 5 minutes and 1 round per piece per minute for 5 minutes. “Barrage Puvenelle” will be repeated once, if in the judgment of the Commanding Officers concerned, the conditions seem to warrant it. After 20 minutes fire will be continued only upon request from the Commanding General, Divisional Artillery on the right or upon orders from these Headquarters. 2. One the call of “Barrage Charey” by these Headquarters to the Commanding General, Divisional Artillery on the right, one battalion of 75’s will deliver a combing fire on the salient of roads and machine gun positions in the general vicinity of B3163, and one battery of 155’s will deliver fire with one gun each on the road intersection at the following coordinates: B-4165, B4162, B4364, B4362, as shown on the appended tracing. 3. In delivering “Barrage” Puvenelle” the 90 mm guns of the 340th Field Artillery will take over the sector abandoned by the left battalion of the 340th. The right battalion of the 341st will take over the barrage of the right battalion of the 340th, and the 90 mm guns of the 341st will support the 90 mm guns of the 340th in the sector taken over by them. The left battalion of the 341st will take over the barrage of the right battalion of the 341st, and the right battalion of the 134th will take over the barrage of the left battalion on the 341st. The left battalion of the 134th will take over the barrage for the entire 134th sector. The necessary arrangements to accomplish this last will be made by the Operations Officers of the regiments concerned. The rate of fire for the 75’s will be the normal barrage rate; for the 90 mm, 1 round per piece per minute. WHEELER. Description | <p>A barrage report providing the time and duration of a series of barrages. This paper was held by Capt. Charles Dunker before he was killed. The document contains a hole made by the piece of shell fragment that killed Capt. Dunker. This document was found by Dan Bartlett. Dan Bartlett was a junior at Washington University when he joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1917. He was later commissioned a lieutenant in Battery D, 340th Field Artillery, 164th Brigade, 89th Division of the U.S. Army.</p> |
