Hampton B. Ball letter to home Sunday - ca. 1918
Transcript
Sunday Dear Home, I am again on a train going north that is all I can tell you about where I am going but I am glad I am on the way. I have seen some more hilly country as we have been in the mountains all the way so far. We are now in the mountains of [Virginia] and it is certainly some sight. The sun is shining and everything is looking its best. Wish that all of you could see the country I have been over in the last ten days. I have been thru Iowa [Missouri], Kansas, Arkansas, [Tennessee], [Mississippi], [Alabama], Georgia, South [Carolina], North [Carolina], [Virginia] and still going. The riding is pretty rough and I am writing on my knee so I doubt if you can read it. I don't know how much longer

I will be in this country but it wont be long. If you dont hear from me for two or three weeks you know I have gone so wish you would please write to the Hunter's and A.F. Palmers' when I leave. H's are at 2632 Emerson Ave. S. and P's are 1317-6th St. S.E. I am sending two tags, like we carry when we go across, with my number. Put them with the rest of my junk. I took out $10 000 insurance and told them to send you the [ms illegible: 1 wd]. It is made out to J. Rush Ball so keep that also when it comes. Must stop now for dinner Hamp. Address me at Camp Gordon until further notice. The eats are a lot better on this trip than on the last one I took.
