[September 14, 1918] Dear Home, I wrote you yesterday but did not get to mail it. This afternoon your letter of [August] 21 came so will write again. The rain I told you about yesterday has now stopped and this has been the prettiest day we have had for some time. There is nothing that would suit us better than fair weather. I am glad that Tootch is going to Columbia this winter. She will have a good time and at the same time get a lot of good out of it. Francis Shippy will also be in Columbia this winter at some girls school. Wish Tootch would look her up. She is a kind of curious sort

of girl but it is caused from never being allowed to pick her own friends. Jinx I have not learned to speak much French but I think I will be able to talk to you by the time I get home. It is hard to learn with this company because there are already fourteen languages spoken in it. When they all start at once it sounds more like wild geese than anything else. I saw an ad in the Free Press asking for aid for the Salvation Army Canteen Fund. Help them out if possible because they are doing an awful lot for the boys

here. They do more for the money put in than any other organization in that kind of work. The Knights of Columbus are also doing a bit. They have furnished us with books and magazine even in the front line trenches which has not been done before.
