Hampton B. Ball letter to home - November 8, 1918
Transcript
[November 8, 1918] Dear Home, I suppose you are beginning to think that some thing has happened to me. I have not written for a long time but where I have been there is very little out going mail. I have received your letters every week no matter where I happened to be. I had some thrilling experiences while in this mess but I came out without a scratch and outside of being tired I fell on good as I have all summer. I am now back for a rest and hope to get a pass to [ms illegible: 1 wd] for several days.

It is great to see the "Jerries" beat it but when they stop it gets pretty hot until we go after them again. We give them very little time to stop now so there is not a great deal of trouble. From the looks of the papers now it will be only a short time until this thing is all over and we will begin to think of coming home. I may get home for Christmas yet but as for coming back in time for Thanksgiving, I wont make it. I have everything I need that is I have all I can carry, so do not worry about me or how I live. There are very few who fare better than I do any way because I have gotten to be an artist of gathering food stuff. Must close now but in a few days I am going to write you all about what I have been doing and where I have been (as far as possible) Love to all Hamp Cpl Hampton B. Ball Co. B. 326 Inf. A.E.F.
