July 7, 1918 Dear Home, Since writing to you last I have been in and out of the trenches. I am now several miles back of the lines in a rest camp. I have had no disagreeable experiences so far and am as well as usual. I have received only one letter from the states in the last month. It was from Jo written just after she got back to Pueblo. Have Belle and the kids gone back? I bet they had one grand time with the pony as well as several fights. It was great to have them all there together this

year. I would have liked to have been there my self but I must now wait until next summer for my celebration. There was a grand and glorious "Fourth" spent all over France. I went to a movie show which was the first I had seen since I left the U.S. It was mostly pictures I had seen before but here anything goes that will pass the time away. Here we hardly know when one day ends and another begins. It hardly seems possible that the summer is half gone and I hope and also beleive that it will all be over before other

half is gone. I found two discarded books when I came out of the trenches which I have just about finished. I have made them last as long as possible because they are all I have had to read for some time. Must close now. Dont worry because every thing will come out alright. As ever Hamp. Corp Hampton B.
