Transcript
[January] 12, 1919 Dear Home, I received your letter of [December] 15th yesterday. I was certainly glad to hear that you had heard from me at last. I had just written a cablegram to send you when the letter came so I did not send it. I do not know what the trouble is with the mail coming over. I have received only two letters from you, one from Jo and some from either the H's or P's written since [November] 5th. I have written you at least once every week since I came out of the lines the last time and have also sent a lot of post cards

so you surely have plenty of mail from me by this time. Papa I was very much pleased to get your letter. I have answered all your questions before but perhaps the letters was lost. I am in the 82nd Division. At the time I was in the lines Major Gen. Duncan was in command of the division and Major Gen. Liggett was in command of the corps (the first). I am going to make another soon which will give every thing. I

will send it along as soon as it is finished. Please keep this as it is the only one I have. There is nothing but drill from Xmas to the present time. I will tell you what happens in the future. This week has been just like the next except today. I went down to hospital to see my Lieut. who has been sick for about two weeks. I took dinner at a French cafe and had boiled cabbage, creamed potatoes, stewed rabbit (a lame one), a cup of coffee (French) which was strong enough to keep me awake for two nights and plenty of bread. Pretty good dinner costing 7.75 francs (about $150) for three of us. We had to walk about 3 1/2 miles each way, coming back through the rain [ms torn]

had a good time just the same. There is only one more news item and that is that you can look for me about March first. Must close now with Love to all Hamp. P.S. Do not fail to keep the inclosed sheet! [censor signature]
