[February] 2, 1919 Dear Home, I am still here in Courcelles but my time is growing short. I leave here the last of this week or the first of next for Le Mans which is our first step towards the states and home. I do not expect to get out of France before about March first. If I am lucky enough to get a fast boat I will be in the states by about the eighth. Do not feel bad if I come walking in any time next month. The war in this town is over. We have captured all the hills for miles around many times and

are such artists at the job that we are considered as being able to return to civil life. I will never forget how to take a hill no matter if I live for a hundred years. We are getting all checked up now ready for the return. We started the cooty raid last week. We went thru our first steeming and have many more to follow before we get out of France. I wanted to bring home one for your inspection but it is strictly against the rules of human censorship. I had a grand herd at one time both French and German and believe me the half breeds are the worst of all. I dont know [ms torn]

myself now that I have no varmints playing, "Pussy wants a Corner", around my neck. Some more news. I am now teaching school. While the others are doing squads right and left I am sitting by the fire. That is in the day time. I teach three hours each evening tho while the others sitting by the fire. I only have one student and that is a Jew who thinks he know every thing and yet has only a slightly knowledge of nothing. My subject is [ms illegible: 1 wd] I do not mind teaching but I cant get along with the Jews. It is now 10:30 and I am still in bed which is the only warm place around here. I have been reading ever
