[August 23, 1918] Dear Home, A big bunch of mail came yesterday and I heard from every body at once. I got a young book from Lewis dealing with insurance and the coming election. It is the first I have heard from him for a long time. It seems there has been a misunderstanding about my insurance. It is correct that I told you the policy would be sent you which it will. I did not say that I was sending it because owing to the large number of policies to be written it will be about seven months from the time I signed before the policy is sent out. A lot of the

fellows have never heard from it altho they have been in the army about a year. Please do not let it worry you any more because it will taken care of in due time. We also mentioned something about not telling you where I was. At first conditions were such that I could not but I have told you in later letters that I was in France. When I first came across I was also in England; I don't think I ever told you that. It is a most beautiful country because every inch of it is in use but I can not tell you about it now. When I get back I will tell all about the countries I have been in but not before. Virginia mentioned in her last letter that you had corn for the first time. That is the only thing I have not had but I have seen only about a dozen stalks growing this summer. I dont believe it is raised here at all because what I saw was volunteer. She also said she would like a picture but I am afraid she will be disapointed. I must close now as it is getting dark. We have French fried and steak coming for breakfast so I must get a good nights sleep. I also have cultivated the habit of drinking coffee since I came across otherwise I am the same as ever. Love to all Hamp. Cprl Hampton B. Ball Co. B. 326th Infantry A.E.F.
