[August 13, 1918] Dear Home, I started to write to you Sunday but did not get a chance. Yesterday I tried again but with the same results. them being letters from you dated from June 20 to July 12. I am glad you have heard from me because I was beginning to think all the letters were being lost. I saw Geo. Busch and E. French the other day. They are the first people I have seen in France that I knew. I doubt if I get to see them again before the war is over because it was just an accident this time. I would like to see some of the rest of them and perhaps will soon. I am still feeling as fine as I ever did and am now back for a little rest. Dont worry about "Red Cross" stuff for me because I have everything now that I can possibly carry. It is a job to carry everything I need on my back. I am now in prettiest part of France I have seen. The people are also the best we have struck. As a whole they can not do enough for us. I have found one fine old French woman here who has prepared several fine feeds for me besides doing my washing. She says I am some eater and does not understand why I am not fat.
