Wood Gas Alarm Rattle

Details

Title Wood Gas Alarm Rattle
Description This wooden gas alarm rattle was designed to alert soldiers on the lines of an impending gas attack. Different types of gas were used during the war and by 1917 when the Americans reached the battlefield, gas attacks were commonly employed by both sides in the war. This device was simply designed to make a rattle noise to alert any unaware persons that a gas attack was imminent. Their light weight, and effectiveness of warning attacks made them popular with soldiers.
