US Marlin Model 1917

Details

Title US Marlin Model 1917
Description The Marlin Firearms Company was founded in 1870 and by 1917 were producing firearms for the American war effort. The U.S. Model 1917 was a machine gun redesigned from the previous model M1895. The gun was used primarily on a mount or tripod for increased stability and control, but jamming issues made the gun somewhat unpopular with land based soldiers. However the gun did serve quite well as a mounted gun for use with aircrafts. By the end of the war, many Vickers machine guns were replaced with Marlin 1917s on allied aircraft. There were plans in place to mount the gun on tanks, but the end of the war came, and the plan lacked necessity.
