Leg Wrap Puttees

Details

Title Leg Wrap Puttees
Description These rolled puttees would have been used by light infantry soldiers. They were used to keep the legs of soldiers warm and dry, but by many accounts they did a poor job of both. They also served as a line of defense against injuries caused by barbed wire in the trenches and in no-man’s land. Examples like these were more regularly distributed to non-commissioned officers and privates, where their leather counterparts were generally reserved for higher ranking members of the armed forces.
