Missouri Over There

German Button

Title German Button
Description John Frank Hardesty most likely took this metal button with the German State Crown as a souvenir during the war. In 1917, Hardesty enlisted in the United States Medical Corps and requested a transfer to the Seaforth Highlanders in the British Army so he could fight. German soldiers captured Hardesty in March 1918 and held him as a prisoner of war until the armistice in November 1918.
