Description	Though U.S. soldiers in past wars had tended to carry some form of identification with them, WWI was the first war where soldiers carried authorized U.S. identity tags. The tags, which were in the shape of a disc, were originally issued individually, but by the time of U.S. entrance into WWI two tags were issued to each soldier. This part of tags belonged to Edgar F. Schmitz.
