Description	Signs like this would have been posted in areas of the war zone were gas attacks were likely or had previously occurred. The purpose of these signs was to keep soldiers at the ready for a poisonous gas attack. Soldiers were expected to have their gas masks in “the alert position” meaning close at hand, and easily accessible.
